Protein - not only for bodybuilders!

Most of us know that the body is mostly water, but we often forget that protein provides structure to all cells in the body and is the main component of muscles, bones, organs, skin, and nails. Muscle contains about 40% of all the protein in the human body. Skin and hair are made mostly of protein while bones and teeth are composed of minerals in a protein framework. The proteins in the body serve as building blocks in body tissue and as enzymes to catalyze reactions within the body. A protein deficiency results in muscle mass breakdown, loss of skin elasticity, and thinning of hair. Furthermore, the lack of protein enzymes slows down metabolic reactions.

However, change is not easy, particularly not when it comes to lifestyle changes or losing weight! In the world we live in today we are constantly bombarded with temptations to make unhealthy choices. This leads to frustration and disillusion and inevitably the Blue Monday blues come and go, and resolutions are soon forgotten.
